It has been played since, during the interludes between stories on All Things Considered, for instance in 3/93 and again on 1/31/96 at 6:25pm.

Also, according to MPDesape, on 2/24/96 "at 9:30 CST ... they played a Contact loop during 'Car Talk', another NPR show. "Click and Clack (Tom and Ray Magliozzi), the hosts of "Car Talk" referred to Contact (this is not a direct quote) as arguably the worst song ever written about an automobile," reported ZachariachD 7/7/99.)
